Maccaferri are exhibiting at EuroGeo4 in Edinburgh on 7-10 September 2008. We look forward to seeing you there!

Pavements

Fixing the transverse junction between rolls of Maccaferri Roadmesh using (in this project) Hilti nails and clips.
Placing asphalt onto Maccaferri Roadmesh
Installing Road Mesh on the A4144 in Oxford.
Rolling the Maccaferri Roadmesh flat to the road surface removes 'memory' in the Roadmesh easing the installation.
Maccaferri Roadmesh secured to the pavement in this project using Hilti clips and nails. Fixings are specific to the project, depending upon the substrate into which you are fixing.

Pavements, whether bound or unbound, are exposed to repeated, high and focused loads. These can cause premature aging and failure of the road construction. Reinforcing products, included within the construction layers can:

  • Strengthen the pavement
  • Provide an increased working life
  • Reduce deflections
  • Reduce rutting and fatigue cracking
  • Reduce the amount of aggregate construction materials

The appropriate product is selected based upon the loadings expected in service and the ground conditions encountered. Maccaferri offers the construction industry an unsurpassed range of geogrids and geotextiles, enabling us to select reinforcement optimised for your site conditions and loading requirements. A wide range of ground conditions, require a wide range of reinforcement products, and one style of grid will not be optimal for all ground types.

The potential to reduce construction materials in these roads saves on the export and import of materials from site, embracing sustainability and reducing polluting truck movements. Cost savings through the reuse of site won material with geogrids can be substantial on a project.

Bound Pavement Reinforcement (Click Here)

These pavements consist of a number of layers of unbound and asphalt bound aggregates to produce a composite construction. Being flexible, they are resilient, and offer a good ride quality. However, they can be prone to fatigue failures, reflective cracking, rutting and ‘shoving’ failures. Reinforcement products can strengthen the pavement construction, improving its performance, and reducing the “whole life costs” of the road.

Unbound Pavement Reinforcement (Click Here)

These roads use only unbound materials in their construction. These pavements may be used to provide temporary access for construction traffic especially over poor or wet ground and for permanent low-use pavements where bound pavements are unnecessary; e.g. Forestry or mining roads.

Temporary Working Platforms / Platform Reinforcement (Click Here)

Recent Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) guidelines require that piling platforms are designed to be appropriate for the temporary loads they will be exposed to; the movement of piling rigs over them, and the loads from those rigs during use.

The use of geosynthetics to reinforce these piling platforms is becoming more common, making the platform more reliable and safer to use and even by reducing the quantities of the platform construction materials.
