Housing & Commercial Development
Maccaferri has many solutions which overcome some of the challenges faced when developing sites for housing and commercial sue.
Retaining walls: On new housing and commercial developments the need for robust retaining systems is ever present. Increasingly, the appearance of the structure plays a significant role. Gabions constructed to a high standard and faced with local stone can deliver a structure that not only looks good but also reflects the natural environment. Where required, Terramesh® combines the aesthetics of a gabion wall with the additional strength of reinforced soil.
For an equally attractive finish, reinforced segmental block walls, can be offered with a split-face finish in a range of colours. Timber Crib structures, suitable for low height walls and landscaping, complete the range of retaining systems offered by Maccaferri.
Maccaferri’s systems which require a small footprint to construct, including gabions, MacWall™ segmental blockwork walls and in some locations, timber crib walls. Where needed, MacRes® concrete panel reinforced soil walls enable vertical faced retaining structures, ideal for train or highway corridors within urban areas.
Ground reprofiling: Where sloping ground needs to be terraced to facilitate construction development, reinforced soil (Terramesh®,Green Terramesh® and soil reinforcement geogrids, MacGrid® and Paragrid) can be used. By offering a wide range of geogrids, Maccaferri is able to maximise the potential to reuse site won material as structural backfill to the reinforced soil slopes, saving clients time and cost.
Drainage: The effective drainage of structures, green roofs and roads is essential to ensure their long-term performance. Numerous varieties of MacDrain® are available to replace traditional gravel/granular drains, offering laboratory tested long-term performance. It provides a conduit for unwanted or excess water from the structure, reducing pore water pressure and the damaging effects of water.
Pavement reinforcement and stabilisation: Urban environments are characterised by high traffic volumes, impacting pavement condition and fatigue life. The use of Road Mesh® and MacGrid® AR to reinforce the asphalt layers, extends fatigue life, minimising disruption through pot-holes and resurfacing works. MacGrid® EG and WG geogrids and MacTex® geotextiles can also stabilise sub-grades over soft soils. This solution is common in industrial developments experiencing high axle loads and truck movements.
Hydraulic works: River and stream diversions or channelisation is a common solution to contain a watercourse within a specific area. Maccaferri offers a logical graded range of erosion control systems from hard armour Reno® Mattresses to BioMac® biodegradable mats, enabling the selection of an erosion control system appropriate to the erosion risk clients face.
Sound Barriers: Noise pollution from infrastructure can be a problem within urban areas. Maccaferri offers GreenReef and GreenSonic; systems inserted within the urban streetscape which not only absorb noise, but also are re-vegetating, providing a green amenity.
Architectural:Gabions have been used for building cladding for many years. Whether using welded or woven mesh, Maccaferri has the expertise to help architects achieve this fashionable aesthetic.
