ParawebTM is a BBA Roads and Bridges Certified geosynthetic product for use in reinforced soil applications such as MacRES. It features high tenacity polyester fibres, encased within a protective polyethylene sheath. This casing gives excellent resistance to damage caused during installation.
ParawebTM was first used with vertical faced concrete panel reinforced soil systems in the mid-1970’s and therefore predates every polymeric soil reinforcement material in the world market. A monitored structure was built by Transport Research Laboratory in the UK in 1977 from which samples continue to be recovered for testing (Most recent results were presented by “Naughton et al” at Baton Rouge 2005) and show no change after 29 years of use.
This structure provided support data for the publication of the UK Department of Transport’s Technical Memorandum BE3/78 ‘Reinforced Earth Retaining Walls and Bridge Abutments for Embankments’ which gave guidance on the design and construction of reinforced earth structures. This was later superseded by BS8006.
Paraweb is manufactured in Britain by Linear Composites, a member of the Maccaferri Group of Companies.
