Woven jute is used to provide erosion control to low risk situations. Jute can be hydroseeded, hand seeded or laid over existing sparse vegetation. Maccaferri woven jute is made from jute fibres, which retain moisture for seed development. The open weave of the netting (65% soil exposure) creates a sequence of small obstructions to water run-off flow, thereby limiting sediment erosion. The weaving configuration intercepts significant raindrop impact energy on vulnerable soils as well.
The material typically biodegrades within 18 months, by which time, sufficient vegetation has to be established to provide ongoing erosion protection of the surface,
