MacMat R is a unique composite material consisting of a three-dimensional geomat integrated during the manufacturing process with Maccaferri double twist hexagonal steel mesh. Originally intended to be a high performance permanent erosion control mat, it is now used extensively in combination with soil nailing on railway and highway embankments.

The MacMat R is designed to revegetate, and plants easily establish in its open polymeric matrix. This matrix provides long term root stabilisation and reinforcement. MacMat R has also been used as anti-badger burrowing netting on critical embankments, providing the additional surface reinforcement required for large burrowing mammals.

When used with soil nails, the steel mesh within MacMat R, provides reassuring strength thereby offering surficial support in combination with the deep seated structural support provided by the soil nails.

The Maccaferri double twist woven steel wire mesh within MacMat R is BBA Approved.
