Akobond is a natural cellular containment system designed to hold 150mm depth of soil on steep slopes up to 45 degrees, principally to establish shrubs and grasses. Wooden pegs or steel rods are driven into the slope in a fixed pattern and bands of Akobond span between the pegs to form a series of cellular fences, perpendicular to the slope face.
Topsoil dressed into these soil cells provides the nutrient resource for vegetation establishment. The Akobond fences are made from a woven coir fabric, that biodegrades over 3-5 years.
Akobond provides surface stabilisation to a depth of topsoil that would otherwise slump or wash off a slope face. Akobond will not structurally retain or reinforce a slope. If the slope is inherently unstable a retaining structure or soil reinforcement may be required.
